Auto repair in the United States is split between independent shops, dealership service departments and national chains. Independents handle most routine work (oil changes, brakes, tune-ups, check-engine diagnostics) at lower labor rates and often specialize in one make or in imports; dealers keep factory tools, software and warranty authority; chains sell speed and standard pricing on maintenance items. Most shops charge a diagnostic fee, credited toward the repair if you go ahead, and quote parts and labor separately. Certification matters: look for ASE-certified technicians and, in many states, a state repair license posted at the counter. Written estimates are required by law in most states before work begins, and you are entitled to your old parts if you ask.
Hours are published for 5 days a week. The most common schedule is 8 am–4:30 pm. Note that it does not open on Saturday, Sunday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. You can reach Terrys Auto Repair LLC. at (814) 943-3685; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions.
Customers rate it 4.8 out of 5 on Google across 24 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded mechanics in Altoona.

Don't take your car to this mechanic if your issues are any sort of complex! Do not take your car to this mechanic if you want them to take responsibility for the work done to your vehicle! I took my car to this mechanic for some pretty standard work. I needed an inspection, new tires, brakes and rotors. I also needed it checked for a starter issue. They did end up having a bit more work to do once they got to looking at it. They ended up replacing spark plugs, valve covers, my starter, and repairing my exhaust. They took my vehicle in on a Wednesday, told me numerous times that they normally only had cars for a day or two. They called me on Friday the same week, told me they did a bunch of work, then took the car for a test drive, and it was then in limp mode. My car had no acceleration issues EVER over the course of time I'd had it. Michelle from the shop proceeded to tell me about the issue, and advised they were closing shop early for her niece's wedding, and were not open weekends, so would sort out the issue on Tuesday, as the following Monday was a federal holiday. The following Tuesday Michelle called me to advise the car was STILL in limp mode, but that they were unab

Would definitely recommend using Terry’s Auto Shop I will definitely use them again. Upfront and honest didn’t try to sell or give me parts I didn’t need. What I really liked was how friendly, respectful and honest they were. Reminded of the neighborhood mechanic i grew up across the street from. If you need a mechanic go see Terry at Terry’s Auto Shop you won’t be disappointed.
